COVID-19 Assessment For Cancer Survivors and Patients

Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is an infectious disease caused by a newly discovered coronavirus.

Most people infected with the COVID-19 virus will experience mild to moderate respiratory illness and recover without requiring special treatment.  Older people, and those with underlying medical problems like cardiovascular disease, diabetes, chronic respiratory disease, and cancer are more likely to develop serious illness.

Patients with cancer and cancer survivors can use our app to report potential COVID-19 symptoms to an oncologist and manage their risk during the coronavirus outbreak.

Best Practices

All of us have a responsibility to help prevent the spread of COVID-19. There are steps you can take to protect yourself and others.

Practice social distancing

The CDC recommends that people who are at a higher risk of serious illness due to underlying conditions (such as cancer) be extra cautious about interacting with others.

Stay away from others if you or they are sick. Maintaining a safe distance of 6 feet between yourself and others if/when sharing a space is also key to reducing the transmission of the virus.

Practice good hygiene

Clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces such as doorknobs and cell phones. Wash your hands often.  Cover your coughs and sneezes, and avoid touching your face.

Monitor For Symptoms

The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) lists the following potential symptoms of COVID-19 that may appear within 2 – 14 days of exposure to the virus:
- fever
- cough
- shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
- sore throat
- loss of taste or loss of smell

While this is not a complete list of possible symptoms of COVID-19, if you have any or a combination of these, and an underlying health condition such as cancer, regular symptom monitoring is advisable.

The KovidPower app allows you to report these symptoms regularly to an oncologist of your choice, so that quick action can be taken, if necessary, to keep you healthy.
